STAY ACTIVE DURING THE COLD MONTHS
NORDIC POLE WALKING: while using these poles, you will feel taller, work more muscles in the body, up to 80% more and increase your heart rate. The Niagara Region is full of great trails that are free for you to take advantage of on a cold, winter day.
BOWLING: have some fun with a group of friends and head out to do some glow in the dark bowling or try your hand at 5 or 10 pin bowling. This is an easy way to get out of the house and have some fun and exercise with people.
SWIMMING: What a great way to stay in shape! It takes stress off your joints, builds muscle and boosts your spirits. Stay tuned for more information from WIN Health Solutions as the physiotherapy team is gearing up to offer aquatic therapy in the New Year.
GENERAL INTEREST: Is there a new fitness or dance class you have been interested in trying? Checkout the listings in the school board’s adult general interest courses, private clubs, or the seniors’ center to see what is being offered in your area.
WHEN THE SNOW FINALLY FALLS THIS SEASON, CONSIDER THESE GREAT WINTER ACTIVITIES
WALKING/SNOWSHOEING: Do you feel like you’re walking routine comes to a standstill when the colder months arrive. You may be afraid of walking on the ice and snow. Why not try grabbing a pair of easy slip on spikes that can go over your boots or shoes? Better yet try out a pair of traditional or modern snowshoes. You will be surprised how easy it is to trek through the snow. If being outside is not your cup of tea head to the mall and walk around the inside perimeter.
SKATING: Is it time to dust off those skates that have been hiding under the stair for years? Head out to a local arena, or outdoor rink for public skating. Alone or with the family, have fun and enjoy some laughs.
SNOWMAN /IGLOO/SNOW ANGEL making: bundle up and enjoy the winter. With the kids, your spouse or significant other. Revisit being a kid again!
On a final note, whatever activity you and your family choose to do enjoy the outdoors or indoors, be safe, dress in layers, protect your skin and rehydrate. Winter can be long and cold. Get out there and find activities that will keep your spirit alive until the spring thaw and the warm summer sunshine return.
