They also allow you to hit smaller stabilizing muscles by having control of the band and not allowing it to slip. With that being said, the more muscle fibers that are working, the more calories you will burn.
Bands are most beneficial for muscle groups that do not always engage properly with weights, such as your glutes and scapular muscles. Bands also correct your form by keeping the body where it needs to be while performing an exercise. For example, putting a band around your wrists when doing push ups help keeps elbows at a correct angle.
