Strength is a key component to almost everything you need to do in your daily life. And for athletes, it is a key component to achieving greatness. Most of us don’t just want to be strong, we need to be strong! Here are 3 reasons how strength contributes to your daily or athletic endeavours:
1. YOU CAN BE RELIED UPON TO DO THINGS
Trouble opening that jar of pickles? Neighbour needs a hand moving a new fridge inside? Are you the one to ask, or are you hoping they ask someone else because you might not be strong enough? There are many things you can do to raise your level of strength, from squats to push-ups and from walking lunges to plank. And the exercises I named are just a few that you don’t need equipment for. Just do those four exercises everyday and you won’t have to shy away from the “hard stuff” anymore!!
2. STRENGTH BUILDS SPEED
Every athlete I train wants to be faster. And that’s good…because in my opinion it’s the number one thing that will set you apart. But in order to get fast you HAVE to be strong!! That’s just how it works. Very rarely will you find a coach that tries to get you faster without getting you stronger. Athletes might head to the gym and try rear-elevated split squats, deadlifts or step-ups. Any and all of those can be utilized by athletes to build strength…and get fast!!
3. CORE FUNCTION
All the exercises I listed previously have something in common. They all rely upon the core. Though the core isn’t the primary mover in those exercises, it can not be overlooked. How the body moves, transfers movements and stabilizes body parts, all involve the core. You need a strong core to stabilize body position when running. You need a strong core when you decide to carry all the grocery bags inside on one trip. There really isn’t a way around it. That’s why it’s called the core. There are many ways to train it and it has many functions, but bottom line, the core has to be strong!!
Those are just a three reasons of why it’s important to be strong. There are others, but the main thing is, don’t let lack of strength be the one thing getting in the way of achieving what you want to accomplish.
