Vestibular is a fancy term for the inner ear. Our inner ear is responsible for detecting angular motion, like turning or spinning. When there is a problem with the inner ear, we experience vertigo where we have the sensation that either the room is spinning or we are spinning.
Here’s where I come in and how Physiotherapy can help…
The vestibular, vision and somatosensory systems work together to make up our balance system. The brain must accurately receive, process and transmit information from all three systems in order for our balance system to accurately function.
This activity cannot be scanned using x-ray or MRI etc to see if there is a problem.
One must take an accurate subjective history and perform specific special tests in order to determine if there is a deficit. This is my job!!
It is through this testing that I develop a specialized physiotherapy program that helps people who are suffering from problems related to the vestibular system, such as vertigo, dizziness, trouble with balance, posture and vision.
If you have been told you have vertigo, or if you are experiencing dizziness or problems with your balance, visit with me at WIN Health Solutions and I will happy to help you on your way to a less dizzy, more balanced future.
