What does a 65 year old man, an eleven old boy and a 45 year old woman have in common?
They’re all clients of mine. They all have different capabilities, different weaknesses, different strengths and, as you can imagine, like different things. But they share one thing. Striving to get better and feel better.
The boy is a baseball player. I have helped him with his running technique, different movement patterns and core stability. I have helped the man keep his body active and moving, and he will tell you his tennis game has tremendously improved. And the woman just likes to work hard, as I’ve helped her with core stability, single leg strength and more.
You see, it really doesn’t matter how old you are. The days of manual labor and heavy work for chores around a family farmhouse are long gone. This was once how people stayed active. Although those days are gone, the need to be active remains. You need to be active, you need to move.
And no...getting up off the couch every half hour to go to the kitchen for a snack doesn’t count.
Are you out of breath after a trip up the stairs? Good! Do it more!
Or maybe carrying all the groceries in from the car make you huff and puff? Good! Do it more!
Recent research has said at least one hour of physical activity each day can offset many health risks.
Movement can be a brisk walk, a sport you enjoy playing or maybe there’s a personal trainer that has all types of clients and focuses on athleticism (not mentioning any names). Whatever the movement is, it needs to get your heart rate up a little.
Strive to move a little more and be in a little better shape... and round isn't the shape we're aiming for. ;)
